Design Priorities
With this opportunity to create the home of our dreams that will serve us and our community for decades to come, we are designing and planning to ensure it will be:
-
Eco-friendly, minimizing our footprint by selecting sustainable materials and building methods
-
Efficient, choosing smart systems to minimize operating costs
-
Durable, investing in materials now that will last a lifetime
-
Accessible, to meet the needs of the many populations of animals and people we serve
-
Brimming with natural light, vital for human/animal well-being
-
Quiet, with privacy and soundproofing to minimize stress and stimulation for pets and people alike
-
Healthy, with proper ventilation and air exchange, minimizing the spread of disease, promoting recovery, and creating comfort

Completed So Far
Work has been underway, quietly and behind the scenes, for several years to bring this project to life.
VISIONING
All staff had a voice, ensuring we captured their valuable input and heard their unique perspectives each step of the way.
We defined what our new space needs to include, allow us to do, both now and in the future, and how we want it to feel for both animals and people.
DESIGN
A thorough process of bringing our ideas to life, to create a truly purpose-built home.
Needs assessment, program verification, concept plan, landscape and schematic design, design development, value engineering, and finally, construction documents.
PLANNING
Comprehensive coordination of all steps and study necessary to move toward construction.
Site plan; surveys; geotechnical, traffic, and environmental studies; culminating in abatement and demolition of existing structures, for a clean slate on which to build.
APPROVALS
All of the necessary permits, plan reviews, and clearances to prepare for new construction.
Zoning variances; demolition permits; green lights from Streets and Water Departments, PA Department of Environmental Protection, Parks and Recreation, and more.
Still to Come
Please note, PAWS' Northeast Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic will continue operating as usual — it provides vital services to a distinct community that we intend to remain a part of for a very long time to come!
