Space to Serve, Grow, and Secure our Future

Despite our best efforts, PAWS’ current facilities can be stressful environments for our animals, clients, and staff. Demand for our services is staggering, far exceeding what is possible in the space we have. Our strategic goals and plans are clear, and we are proud of the change we’ve led and what we accomplish daily, but to achieve our mission and fully serve our community, we must expand our capacity. The pets and people in our community need PAWS to have a properly sized, inviting, and nurturing space, with room to grow in size and scope, to enable our essential lifesaving programs to make the greatest impact.

PAWS is here for the people and animals of Philadelphia, and the city needs its services.

I'm proud to help in every way I can.

Honoring our Original Homes

When our new building opens, it will take the place of our Grays Ferry Shelter/Clinic and our Old City Adoption Center (PAC), so this is a bittersweet moment. PAC was PAWS’ first home, and is the foundation of the organization we have become. So many animals have found their families within those walls, and that legacy exists because of the hard work, love, and dedication of our staff and volunteers. Likewise, Grays Ferry has enabled us to serve hundreds of thousands of community pets and dramatically expand the range of animals we've been able to rescue, treat, and place in loving homes. Much of our growth — including the evolution of our foster program and the creation of our Safety Net services — has occurred in that space. We have been honored to become a trusted neighbor and active partner in the Old City and Grays Ferry communities.

Both of these facilities have meant the world to us and have impacted countless lives over the years, but we have far outgrown them, and we are excited for the chance to finally own rather than lease, invest in our own future, and have room to grow. Maintaining them has become increasingly challenging, both financially and logistically. Rent and upkeep expenses are rising, transporting animals between locations creates delays, and both spaces present operational hurdles. Bringing our programs together into one, purpose-built facility will allow us to operate more efficiently, create better environments for both animals and people, and ultimately save more lives. This was not an easy decision, but we know it is the right one, made only after careful consideration and deep appreciation for what our Old City and Grays Ferry facilities have meant to PAWS and our community over all of these years.

Please note that PAWS' Northeast Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic will continue operating as usual — it provides vital services to a distinct community that we intend to remain a part of for a very long time to come!
